GUATEMALA. 8 Escudos, 1817-NG M. Nueva Guatemala Mint. Ferdinand VII. NGC AU-58. KM-71; Onza-1209 ("rara"). Three-year type. A premium example of this always-in-demand Guatemalan type that exhibits semi-reflective fields that produce intense flash and a portrait of Ferdinand VII that is as sharp as any seen. A small patch of softness does appear in the reverse shield, yet few survivors have escaped this imperfection, and the absence of other typical shortcomings such as planchet flaws and adjustment marks is absolutely gratifying. As is typical in this amazing collection, a coin that is difficult to find nicer, with only five examples appearing in higher certified grade, several of which lack the eye-appeal of this beautiful representative. From the Oro del Nuevo Mundo Collection.
