1783 Nova Constellatio Copper. Crosby 2-B, W-1865. Rarity-2. CONSTELLATIO, Pointed Rays, Small U.S. VF-35 (PCGS). Blended medium and autumn-brown patina to both sides, we also note a few splashes of rose-red here and there. The obverse impression is a bit tight to 11 oclock with the letters CONST in CONSTELLATIO soft, yet still readily evident. On the reverse, which is better centered, the U.S. is typically soft for the type, although again readily evident. All other major design elements are bold for the grade. A shallow planchet void in the left reverse field is as made, and there are only a few trivial marks scattered about, none of which are worthy of undue concern. The reverse is rotated approximately 45 degrees counterclockwise from coin alignment. Certainly a well balanced mid grade example of both the type and die pairing.
