1787 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 4-C, W-6100. Rarity-4. Arrows in Left Talon, Bowed Head. AU-53 (PCGS). 147.5 grains. Nicknamed the "Bowed Head" variety for the Indians downward gaze, pleasing high grade specimens of the 1787 Ryder 4-C outside of some Choice Mint State coins are very scarce, making this trouble-free lightly circulated coin an ideal specimen for a high end variety set. Norwebs was called MS-60 though graded MS-65+ by NGC in the Partrick sale, and the primary Ford coin, ex Ryder, is a touch finer than this coin and brought more than $4,300 in 2004. Finding a comparably pleasing, high end example of the die marriage will take a long search.
