1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-26, Salmon 9-E, W-900. Rarity-5. VF-35 (PCGS). 68.0 grains. Warmly and evenly toned in steel-gray, this pleasing mid grade example is free of sizeable or otherwise individually mentionable marks. Close inspection with a loupe, however, reveals light roughness in the planchet, especially on the reverse. The obverse impression is tight to the upper left, reverse better centered, both sides soft at 6 oclock. Most other areas retain suitably bold striking detail that allows ready appreciation of this classic Colonial era design type. Certainly a pleasing Choice VF to represent this slightly scarcer Small Planchet Pine Tree shilling variety.
