Lovely pewter gray surfaces exhibit a dominant sandblast finish, although most design elements are polished and reflective. Apollo 14 was the third mission to land on the moon, and the first to land in the lunar highlands. Astronaut Alan Bean, the recipient of this medal, was the fourth person to walk on the moon as part of the Apollo 12 mission, in which he served as the Lunar Module pilot.
