MS-64 (NGC).26 mm. <strong>Obv: </strong>Saturn V rocket at left with mission number IX in center, command module and lunar module tracing circular track around. <strong>Rev:</strong> Peripheral inscription notes the names of the astronauts who flew the Apollo 9 mission, MCDIVITT SCOTT SCHWEICKART, dates of mission MARCH / 3-13 / 1969 and medal flown number 302 in center, STERLING at bottom. Lovely pewter gray surfaces exhibit a bold sandblast finish that is expectably smooth for the assigned grade. This medal was originally presented to Tomas P. Stafford, one of 24 people who flew to the moon. He was serving as chief of the Astronaut Office when the Apollo 9 mission was flown in 1969, a position he held until 1971.
