The spine with six raised bands, the resulting panels mostly ornamented in gilt, with red labels in the first and second panels, lettered in gilt. Board edges ornamented in gilt with red speckled page ends all around. Slight staining around the inside covers and into the endpapers, but the interior is remarkably clean and mostly free of foxing and other problems, though a few small spots are seen on the first few pages. Two small old labels pasted inside the front cover, one mostly peeled out, bookplate of Dr. Ferdinando Bassoli at the lower left and “3525” circled in pencil in the center. Hundreds of exceptional engraved illustrations throughout the 383 numbered pages of text, depicting European medallic issues from 1500 to 1600. The title page is magnificently engraved with a full page design, the titles in a central panel. A most handsome early numismatic work.From the D. Brent Pogue Library.
