Hardbound in full black leather, with applied cover label of an 1804 silver dollar. Lettered in silver on the cover and spine. Raised spine bands at the head and foot, both bordered by silver ruling. Inside covers and flyleaves finished in light gray silk. Stamped inside the front cover “1 of 3” in silver, and with D. BRENT POGUE similarly applied at the lower front cover. Pages curiously wrinkled deep in the joints near the binding, apparently from the binding process itself. One of just three copies produced, with the second presumably in the library of Mack Pogue and a third presented to the author by the Pogue family. Bowers’ personal letter of appreciation to the Pogues, dated March 4, 2003, is laid in. An impressive and rare copy of this extensive study on America’s most famous rarity.From the D.
