1811 Classic Head Cent. S-287. Rarity-2. Unc Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS). This is an exceptionally appealing coin for the assigned grade, both sides with a base of warm golden-brown patina. Splashes of deeper gray-brown color are most prevalent over the upper two thirds of the reverse, and they are associated with light surface scale that explains the PCGS qualifier. Smooth in hand, nonetheless, with sharp striking detail to the central design elements further enhancing this coins appeal. Poor quality planchet stock and extensive commercial use condemned most surviving Classic Head cents to lower circulated grades, often with extensive environmental damage. This minimally impaired, solid Mint State example represents excellent value for the astute type collector or early copper enthusiast. Noyes Die State B/B.
