1804 (1860s) Draped Bust Cent. Private Restrike. Breen-1761. MS-64 RD (PCGS). Uniform pinkish-apricot colors paint each side of this lovey near-Gem, backlit by satiny luster in the fields. This well-known "restrike" was made unofficially circa 1860 from an altered 1803-dated obverse die with the reverse die of the 1818 Matron Head Cent. The obverse die was severely cracked and rusted at the time it was pressed back into service with the altered 1804 date. While they are available in Mint State, examples with full original Red color like the present are quite scarce. In fact, it ranks as one of just two certified by PCGS in the Red category, surpassed by only the MS-66+ RD (PCGS) specimen from the D. Brent Pogue Collection.
