1801 Draped Bust Cent. S-224. Rarity-1. AU-53 (PCGS). Glossy medium copper surfaces are smooth and inviting in hand. Even under close inspection with a loupe this well preserved example reveals only small, wispy handling marks, none of which are worthy of singular mention. The strike is well executed and nicely centered, the reverse fully denticulated and the obverse border smooth only from 1 to 2 oclock. Many of the leaves in the wreath are blunt, typical of the type, but otherwise we note bold definition to all major design elements. Although plentiful in an absolute sense, this is a conditionally challenging variety with the 2015 Noyes census comprised of coins that grade VF-25 to MS-60 by EAC standards. Noyes Die State A/A.
