New York, New York. $2 Original. Fr. 387a. The Saint Nicholas NB of New York. Charter #972. PMG Very Fine 20.A jolly named Lazy Deuce from this holiday inspired New York banking institution. The Saint Nicholas National Bank was chartered in April of 1865 and issued Original Series and Series of 1875 notes only before liquidating in December of 1882. Notes from this popular title are understandably tightly held by collectors. Despite 14 Lazy Deuces being recorded in the census for the bank, the most commonly encountered examples of the type are actually contemporary counterfeits. This genuine example displays vividly printed inks and large machine printed signatures. There is a small tape repair found in the top left corner mentioned by PMG on the back of the holder. From the Dotty Freeman Santa Claus Collection.
