CT-39. Confederate Currency. 1862 $100. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.No. 9098. Plate Ab. Imprint of J.T. Paterson, Columbia, SC. The date of September 16, 1863 is well outside of the known date range for T-39 notes. Tied with one other for Top Pop at both grading services. Even at the Gem 65 EPQ grade level this note appears vastly under graded. It has near cameo printing contrast against the bright white paper. The signatures are boldly accomplished. The margins and centering are sensational for any example of this counterfeit type. There is a single PMG Choice Unc 64 EPQ in their Pop report and that note sold for close to $550 in 2016. Fricke notes how rare counterfeit Train notes are at the Gem grade levels. A stunning lithograph counterfeit that is superior in every manner.
