Georgetown, District of Columbia. Bank of Commerce. 18xx $10. Proof. PCGS Currency Very Choice New 64 PPQ.(DC-70 G4). Four HPCs. Printed on India paper. Mounted on cardstock. Imprint of Danforth, Bald & Co., Philad. & New-York. Top center is Commerce and Agriculture seated with a portrait of Washington. Left end is a canal scene. Right end shows seated Liberty and eagle. Great balance in the design. This black and white proof is a screaming gem in every regard but for the right margin straying close to the frame line. We have sold numerous examples that include the red protectors. This is the first $10 proof we have sold of this type without red protectors. We sold one with red protector in our 2011 ANA sale. That piece was a raw Uncirculated note and it still topped the $2,000 mark. The only two black and white examples we have sold were a dozen years ago in our Capital City sale, and they were very well received that day.
