Undated (1834) William Seward. HT-27A, Low-14A. Rarity-5. Silvered Brass. 26.7 mm. Extremely Fine.Reverse scratched. Struck coin turn. This is a predominantly antique brass example, although faint remnants of the original silvering are discernible. Boldly defined with an overall smooth satin texture, a couple of minor scratches in the upper left reverse field are noted. Here is a superior quality example of this challenging type, especially with regard to the strike. The scarcity of this type is well known to specialists, who are also aware that most examples in numismatic hands are well worn and/or significantly impaired. While not a perfect token, the example offered here is finer than most Sewards and would be a noteworthy addition to any cabinet. From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
