Lot of approximately (118) pieces from the Athletic Medal Archive of Two Time Olympian Samuel Morse Felton, Jr.Samuel Morse Felton, Jr., 1926-2015, attended St. Marks School in Southborough, Mass., and received a BS from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Felton participated in the weight throw, hammer throw and discus in high school and university, and represented the United States in the hammer throw in the 1948 London and 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. In April 2015, he was inducted into the New York Athletic Clubs Hall of Fame. Offered in this lot are a multitude of mostly US but some foreign athletic award medals he earned in competition as well as in judging. Later in life he collected a variety of Olympics participation medals, offered elsewhere in this auction. Included in this lot are 4 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze medals for hammer and weight throw given by the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States, dated 1947-1955 and borrowing Victor David Brenners early 1900s design; the silver and gold awards are marked "sterling" for .925 fine silver, a sample of which weight 33.8 grams. Medals of the Metropolitan Association of the AAU are dated 1948-1954 and are for weight throw, hammer throw or discus: 12 gold and silver award medals are in sterling silver, joined by 5 bronze awards; a sample of one of the "sterling" medals weighs 25.8 grams. The balance of the 59 athletic award medals are generally small gold, silver or bronze award medals of various events or athletic organizations, including some foreign medals and plaquettes; all are in base metal or sterling silver. Notable among them is a silver Penn Relays medal of the University of Pennsylvania, whose design is by noted sculptor of athletes Robert Tait Mackenzie.
