拍品描述： Friedberg 343 (W-3625). 1891 $100 Silver Certificate. PCGS Currency Choice New 63.These 1891 $100s are designated Silver Certificates rather than as their predecessors, Silver Certificates of Deposit. The portrait of James Monroe, seen on the Certificate of Deposit notes of 1878 and 1880, is retained for this series, though the typography and other design elements are different. There is a totally redesigned open back layout. This variety displays the engraved signatures of Treasury officials Rosecrans and Nebeker along with a red scalloped Treasury Seal at right. The serial numbers, E23143 on this example, are executed in bold navy blue at the lower left and upper right. Broad margins are found on this bright, well printed Silver Certificate, and original overprint embossing is observed from the verso.<p><p>Approximately 120,000 pieces were printed and today 21 examples are recorded in the Martin Gengerke census. Five of those are held in government or institutional collections. These notes were redeemable for silver dollars and it would appear that redemption rates were greater than for lesser denominations.<p><p>This is the single finest Fr.343 (W-3625) to be certified by either PCGS Currency or PMG. Furthermore, it is the only note certified above the Extremely Fine 45 level. It is another great trophy note from the Joel R.
