Friedberg 1219e (W-4636). 1907 $1,000 Gold Certificate. PCGS Currency Choice New 63.This high grade 1907 $1000 Gold Certificate features the portrait of founding father Alexander Hamilton at center flanked by gold overprints at left and right. Bold 1000 counters are found in each corner. Engraved signatures of Treasury officials Teehee and Burke are to the lower left and right of center. The back is printed in brilliant orange-gold with the Great Seal of the United States at center and 1000 counters in the corners.

This broadly margined $1000 note displays bright paper and ideal inks. The overprint inks remain boldly colored and the back printing retains all of its original brilliance. This note was actually housed in a PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 holder with the comment "Great Color" when it was last offered at auction in September 2006. It certainly has enough eye appeal to justify a near Gem grade. This is the finest example graded by PCGS Currency. PMG has certified two at the 64 level (this being one of them) and a single note at the 66 EPQ level. This is a key note in a very popular series with the present note being among the finest available to collectors. This type is ranked #75 in 100 Greatest American Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers and David M. Sundman, a book available on the Whitman website or from your favorite numismatic book dealer.

PCGS Population: 1, none finer. From Lyn Knights sale of November 2001, lot 317; Heritage Auctions sale of September 2006, lot 19506.
