1856 Millard Fillmore. DeWitt-MF 1856-6. White metal. 27.6 mm. Extremely Fine.,Pierced for suspension and with evidence of an ancient cleaning, though now nicely toned to deep lead gray. No serious marks mar the fields, but there are two small oak leaves punched into the obverse, left and right of the neat suspension hole. These do not seem to be on the example in the Sullivan plate and are curious, adding more intrigue than harm. Joe Levine pronounced this one of the two rarest Fillmore medals, noting that he had only discovered a single 20th century offering of one when he cataloged this piece in 1997. John Ford did not own an example, and we are aware of no other appearances.,From the Brian Dobbins Collection of American Political Tokens.
