1916 Lincoln Cent. Proof-65 RB (PCGS).;Original autumn orange surfaces are accented by mottled copper brown overtones that are boldest over the upper right reverse. Undertones of pale rose and lilac-blue are best appreciated with the aid of a direct light. Satiny and smooth with a needle sharp strike from the rims to the centers. The early Matte Proof Lincoln cent series ends with the 1916, a key date issue with just 1,050 pieces produced. We estimate that fewer than 500 survive today. We urge interested bidders to pursue this lot with intensity since most survivors are in Choice or lower grades.;From our (Stacks) session of Auction 81, July 1981, part of lot 1690.
