1914 Barber Half Dollar. Proof-65 Cameo (PCGS).;Virtually brilliant surfaces allow ready appreciation of a cameo finish, rare for a late date Proof Barber half. We do note delicate silvery overtones that yield to more vivid reddish-orange highlights here and there at the denticles. The strike is full and the surfaces are as would be expected at the Gem level. With the circulation strike 1914 half dollar produced to the extent of just 124,230 pieces, survivors of the years 380-piece Proof delivery are always in demand. Scarce in its own right, the 1914 actually has the lowest mintage in the entire Proof Barber half dollar series. With most survivors uniformly mirrored in finish and grading no finer than Choice, this cameo Gem is sure to sell for a premium bid.;From our (Stacks) session of Auction 81, July 1981, part of lot 1688.
