1915 Lincoln Cent. Proof-65 RB (PCGS). CAC.;Offered is a handsome and original example of this key date Matte Proof Lincoln cent. Both sides retain plenty of rose-red and golden-orange color that is most vivid in the center of the reverse. Lightly toned with mottled overtones of iridescent lilac-brown. Satiny in texture with a razor sharp strike throughout. The penultimate issue in the early Matte Proof Lincoln cent series, the 1915 has a mintage of 1,150 pieces. Survivors are even scarcer than this total might imply, as many examples were likely spent by contemporary collectors disillusioned by the Matte Proofs of the 1909 to 1916 era. The 1915 is the third rarest issue of this type after the 1909 V.D.B. and 1916, and it is represented here by an very high grade coin that will please the advanced collector.;From our (Stacks) session of Auction 84, July 1984, part of lot 1267.
