1797 Liberty Cap Half Cent. C-3b. Rarity-4. Low Head. Lettered Edge. VG Details--Tooled (PCGS). A challenging Cohen number offered in suitably bold, generally appealing VG preservation. Significant softness is confined to the upper right reverse, and the only mentionable mark is a minor scratch in the center of the obverse. Microscopically rough, which feature was lessened by tooling, the surfaces have also been cleaned and recolored. Although not a perfect example, the elusiveness of the 1797 C-3b half cent variety is sure to win many adherents for this coin. From Heritages Summer FUN Signature Auction of July 2017, lot 3355.
