1797 Liberty Cap Half Cent. C-1. Rarity-2. 1 Above 1. VF-35 (PCGS). An attractive mid grade early half cent with hard, tight, medium copper-brown surfaces. Direct lighting reveals a tinge of olive overall that further enhances the coins appearance. Well struck with complete denticulation around both sides and bold detail remaining to most major design elements. Close inspection with a loupe reveals mostly small, wispy marks, a faint pin scratch bisecting Libertys neck the only one that we feel is worthy of individual mention. While many examples of this die pairing are overstruck on Talbot, Allum & Lee cents, there is no discernible evidence of an undertype here. Manley Die State 1.0, with no bulge to the left of the letter L in LIBERTY, described as "Rare" by Manley.
