Mint State. 51 mm. <strong>Obv:</strong> Agricultural scene with harbor and rising sun in background, angel above flies left and carries scroll inscribed VIRTUTIS PRAEMIUM, inscription SOCIETAS - CINCINNATORUM - INSTITUTA around periphery, below in exergue are clasped hands, scroll inscribed ESTO PERPETUA, and date 1783. <strong>Rev:</strong> Military surrender scene with peripheral inscription OMNIA - RELINQUIT - SERVARE - REMPUBLICAM, crossed branches below in exergue. <strong>Edge:</strong> WHITEHEAD-HOAG at 6 oclock. A handsome golden-copper piece with crisp striking detail and pleasing surfaces. While we sold an example of superficially similar design as lot 203 in our (Stacks) January 2005 Ford VII sale, this is the first medal from these particular dies that we can recall handling.
