1826 Charles Carroll Medal. By Christian Gobrecht. Julian PE-6. Silver. Mint State. 51 mm. 50.08 grams. Brilliant surfaces are reflective in the fields with a satiny texture to fully impressed, razor sharp design elements. Wispy hairlines and a curiously bright appearance are noted for accuracy, but there are no sizeable handling marks, and the eye appeal is significant. Housed in the original red leather slipcase, which is fully intact and free of significant impairments. (Total: 1 medal; 1 case)<p>In our (Stacks) cataloging for the Ford V sale, we noted an extant population of just 17 medals in silver, of which just a dozen are in private hands. As one of Gobrechts first efforts for the U.S. Mint and the last medal to mark a living member of the Revolutionary generation, this type stands at a unique historical crossroads appealing to a wide variety of numismatists.
