1905 Barber Dime. Proof-67 Cameo (PCGS). CAC. A delightfully toned Superb Gem with tremendous eye appeal to match the excellent preservation. The brilliant complexion at the centers is graced by rich tangerine-orange color that grows deeper towards the borders. This patina is complemented by strong reflectivity in the fields and satiny luster on the devices. 727 Proof dimes were struck in 1905 and about 675 survive to this day. However, the vast majority of these have been impaired by minor marks, well-intentioned polishing, or even circulation in the past century. This issue becomes considerably scarce at the Gem level, with only about 250 known. Most of these are in grades of Proof-65 or Proof-66, with just a handful at the Proof-67 level for advanced specialists. Even fewer at this level demonstrate the strong field-to-device contrast evident here, making this beautiful Proof-67 Cameo among the most desirable known.
