Great Britain--Middlesex. Undated (1790s) End of Pain Halfpenny Token. D&H-831, W-8992. Copper. Plain Edge. MS-64 BN (NGC). An attractive near Gem example of this extremely popular token. Bathed in an even chocolate-brown patina with bursts of original mint red outlining much of the detail. Only a few tiny obverse abrasions and a single spot left of TRICK to report. Related to American colonial types due to the fact that Thomas Paines writings helped to inspire the American Revolution. The English writer was born in 1737 and died in New York City in 1809, having emigrated to America in 1774 at the invitation of Benjamin Franklin.<p>
