Engraved Fraternal Lodge Coin Fashioned out of an 1856-Dated Liberty Seated Quarter. The reverse of the host coin depicts an engraving of a shield with a helmet at the top, crossed axes behind the shield and the letters F C B on the shield, with the fields cut out of the coin. Engraved above is MALTA LODGE No. 53 and the letters KP on a shield below. A loop has been added to the top of the coin for suspension. This is the symbol of the Knights of Pythias, a separate fraternal organization than that of the Masons. A pictorial cut out is a rare bird, but as a lodge badge is rarer still! From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.
