Engraved Shooting Award Fashioned out of an 1890s Barber Half Dollar.B.R.C. / (crossed flags of gold with enamel) / 10 & 15 YRDS (in a white enameled box) (target & arrow) / 100 SHOTS 32, 4 1/2 REVOLVER / JUNE 1898 engraved on the obverse of the host coin. This is a shooting award medal given to the person who accomplished the items engraved, 100 shots of 32 caliber bullets from a 4 1/2" revolver at a target from 10 and 15 yards away. All the peripheral lettering is done in blue enamel, with the gold flags enameled with red, white and blue. Both the flags and the white box are raised and were added to the surfaces of the coin. The arrow was done with orange enamel. The reverse still retains the original pinback. The coin is basically uncirculated, so it is likely dated within a year or so of the 1898 date engraved on the obverse. From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.
