Engraved 1896 Mounting Climbing Award Fashioned out of an 1895-Dated Barber Half Dollar. The reverse of the host coin is engraved with TREPADORA CAMPEON / SIERRA MADRE MOUNTAINS around the periphery and ELEONOR KERSHAW / NOVEMBER / 27-1896 in the center. Awarded for a “Champion Climber” in the Mexican mountains. No information could be found with a quick search on Eleonor, but if she climbed the mountains in 1896 she was a pioneering woman! From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.
