E. KELLOGG (curved) on an 1819 Matron Head large cent. Brunk K-72, Rulau-Z53F. Host coin Good. Ebenezer C. Kellogg worked as a gunsmith in Hartford, CT from 1859 to 1875. During that time, both straight and curved punches were used to mark gun parts and other metal goods. The 1872 city directory lists E. C. KELLOGG & Co. as "gunsmiths, locksmiths, bell hangers, grinders and polishers, and dealers in fishing tackle"—quite a mélange of occupations! Brunk lists four different dates of large cents reported with this stamp, making this a new example.</em>From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.
