J. VAUGHN in a box punch on an 1848 Braided Hair large cent. Brunk V-60, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Very Fine. Brunk lists multiple examples on large cents, including this date. Unfortunately he gives no attribution for this mark. Due to the shape and size, this stamp is most likely that of a silversmith, jeweler, tinsmith, or some other smith working with metal.</em>From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.
