1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Large Planchet. Noe-10, Salmon 8-Diii, W-750. Rarity-3. Without Pellets at Trunk, Reversed N. VF-30 (PCGS). 71.0 grains. Marbled steel, pewter and silver gray patina blankets both sides and provides a pleasingly original appearance for this handsome mid grade example. Slight waviness to the planchet is as made, the strike well executed on an essentially round flan. A few of the letters along the left obverse, upper and lower reverse peripheries are tight to the border, a feature that is hardly worth mentioning. Boldly defined overall with mostly wispy handling marks that are easily overlooked; a thin graze left of center on the obverse is noted solely for accuracy. Noe-10 is not one of the attributions generally considered part of the Reversed Ns variety, but even so the letter N in ENGLAND on the reverse is retrograde. Really a lovely example, it is difficult for us to imagine a more inviting Large Planchet Pine Tree shilling of any variety at the middle reaches of the grading scale.
