1814 (post-1824) Major General Alexander Macomb / Battle of Plattsburgh Medal. By Moritz Furst. Julian MI-16. Bronze. MS-66 BN (NGC).65 mm. Boldly toned in mahogany-brown, this satiny and smartly impressed example is expectably smooth for the assigned grade. A simply superb example of this beautiful work of medallic art. The dies were cut by Moritz Furst in the early 1820s, and the reverse had to be done twice as the first one prepared broke during the hardening process and was never used. The original gold medal was struck December 1824 and, according to Julian, the original dies were still being used for restrikes as of 1885.
