However, it is an important one—Brent Pogue’s personal salesroom copy. Annotations throughout on pieces of interest include, variously, estimates, notes on grades, prices realized and occasionally, buyers’ identities. Brent Pogue’s name in purple ink at the upper right corner of the cover, and penned inscriptions to Brent on the title page from Q. David Bowers and Bill Hawfield, the President of Bowers and Ruddy. Three original bidder cards are included. A most historic copy of this landmark auction event—one of the most important ever conducted. Also included is a perfectly clean and fresh copy of the sale, an apparent backup copy, in the original mailer addressed to Brent Pogue. Another significant addition to this lot is a binder of photocopies of the original documents relating to the history of the famous 1822 half eagle, the Pogue’s most prized acquisition in this sale. The originals will likely forever remain with the coin, so this represents valuable access to this body of historic information. Included are an enlarged color photo of the coin and copies of original correspondence among Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., Armin Brand, Abner Kreisberg, B.G. Johnson, Q. David Bowers, Richard A. Eliasberg, and others. A copy of the original sales receipt from Numismatic Gallery to Mr. Eliasberg, as well as a copy of the United States Gold Coin Collection auction invoice for the Pogues are included. An interesting little archive on this famous American rarity. Also included is a copy of Q. David Bowers’ book, <em>The 1822 Gold Half Eagle</em>, which gives the complete story of this famous rarity, one of D.
