T-27. Confederate Currency. 1861 $10. PCGS Currency Very Fine 25 Apparent. Minor Restorations. No. 6628, Plate Ab. Unlike Montgomery notes, T-27s and their T-35 counterparts were not held from circulation for interest redemption. Survival rates for these notes are less than 2%. Today fewer than 120 T-27s are known to survive. These notes were printed on poor quality paper that was prone to impairments. Additionally, the type is often found either cancelled or with repaired cancellations. The example offered here is a pleasing exception. Modest circulation is observed on this uncancelled mid-grade 1861 $10. The paper is wholesome and free of any distracting faults or attributes. The printed inks are bold and sharply detailed and the issuing signatures are neatly penned. Nice examples of T-27 do not come on the market often. This would be an upgrade in most high-end Confederate type sets. From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
