T-32. Confederate Currency. 1861 $5. PMG Very Fine 25 EPQ. No. 8916, Plate AA. Leggett, Keatinge & Ball produced these high quality Fives based on $5 notes issued by the Mechanics Savings Bank of Savannah, Georgia. The portrait of a young boy is at the bottom left while a blacksmith with his tools are at the bottom right. Bold orange tints are featured on the type with a 5 a top center, FIVE below and a V out to the far right. This type is very difficult to find in problem free grades of Very Fine or better. The example offered here is evenly circulated and bright with an overprint free from oxidation. Full frame lines are also seen on this note which is well deserving of the assigned EPQ designation. From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
