T-4. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PMG Very Fine 25. No. 1315, Plate A. This 1861 $50 was issued at New Orleans June 18, 1861, by A.J. Guirot, Assistant Treasurer of the Confederacy. Prior to Louisianas succession Guirot had been superintendent of the New Orleans Mint. Upon succession Guirot claimed the federal specie at the mint for the Republic of Louisiana. Shortly thereafter he became Assistant Treasurer for the newly formed Confederate States of America. The note displays even circulation with clean, wholesome paper. The green border and security prints are bold while sharp details are featured in the central vignette and die counters. This example is free of any distracting faults whatsoever. Guirots issuing manuscript is neatly penned on the verso and is accompanied by an additional stamped endorsement. This is a wonderful option for a mid-grade type set. From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
