1843 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-2. Rarity-1. MS-63 (PCGS). Here is a splendid representative example of the date and grade. The largely brilliant surfaces enjoy wisps of lively gold toning on both sides with the heaviest concentration at the rims. The fields are reflective and the devices frosty. Both the strike and the eye appeal are top-notch, and few marks of any size can be found with the unaided eye; even the fields exhibit nothing more than a few faint scuffs and those are so minimal as to almost escape detection. Even the so-called "common" dates in the series are scarce to rare in Choice Mint State as here. Indeed, just a half dozen examples of the date have been certified finer by PCGS, and those by only one grading point. A truly lovely example of the date that would add greatly to a Liberty Seated dollar collection or an early type set. Ex our sale of the Monument Hill Collection, March 2016, lot 17226.
