1801 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-212, B-2. Rarity-3. AU-50 (NGC). Pale yellow-gold toning over light gray surfaces, with considerable luster prominent on the reverse. A problem-free example at the AU level, with overall smooth surfaces and no mentionable imperfections. BB-212 vies with BB-211 as the most readily obtainable die marriage of the 1801 silver dollar, and it is a popular type candidate for collectors seeking a single example of the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle design. The variety is conditionally challenging, however, and AU survivors such as this are scarce and always in demand among specialists. Ex our sale of February 2008, lot 2588.
