1901 Portrait Medal of Edward B. Fulde. Silvered Bronze Galvano. 92.1 mm. Smedley-35. By Victor David Brenner. Mint State. An unusual Brenner work, similar to his medal of the same subject, Smedley-35, which is dated 1900 and features a slightly different portrait with his name around it, as well as a different placement of the artists signature. That medal is also a uniface galvano, but is not silvered. Fulde, an American expatriate artist and teacher, was befriended by Brenner during the years he spent studying in Paris, 1898 - 1901. The currently-offered piece has developed some attractive multi-color iridescence in the fields over the years, and is quite a handsome - and no doubt very rare - medallic portrait. From the Richard Jewell Collection. Earlier from the Presidential Coin and Antique Company sale of the Thompson & Gotham Collections, June, 2008, lot 537.
