1814 Major General Jacob Brown medal. Original Dies. Copper, Bronzed. 65 mm. Julian MI-11. MS-63 BN (NGC). Attractive dark chocolate brown surfaces with just a light abrasion in the left obverse field catching the eye. Other signs of handling are mostly minor and require a closer look, as the overall eye appeal is quite nice. A small obverse rim bump is partly obscured by the holder near 10:00. Struck from the original dies completed in 1822 by Moritz Furst. It is believed that the original gold medal, struck in May, 1824, still exists in the collections at the Smithsonian, though it was unfortunately reported by Julian to be in “mutilated condition.”
