Curved title with iconic Bunker Hill Monument at center. Liberty seated at left with shield and staff. General Joseph Warren at right. The Haxby plate note and a rare Proof only example without overprint. Mostly bright with some light handling observed primarily from the back. A few thin spots from prior mounting are also seen on the back. General Warren had been commissioned a Major General in the Massachusetts colonial militia shortly before the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. Upon reaching the battlefield Warren declined to exercise his rank, instead serving as a private soldier in the battle. He encouraged other troops to hold their ground atop Breeds Hill and was killed by British forces there on their third and final assault on the hill.
