1860 Hodges’ “New Years’ Card” Large Broadside. Very Fine and Conserved.An impressive broadside in exceptional condition for such an object. Few survive to this day as such large paper broadsides were generally damaged in the period and mostly thrown out. It is a miracle of survival in this state of preservation.<p><p><p>Titles and Specifications: NEW YEARS CARD, TO THE SUBSCRIBERS OF HODGES MONEY AND FINACIAL PUBLICATIONS, Journal and Bank Note Reporter and Bank Note Safe-Guard. Printed on white rag paper, one-sheet, with natural folds from mailing. Large folio. 55.0cm by 37.0 cm. Ornately bordered on four sides. At the top, wide span eagle holds ribbons with titles of the Hodges publication, one on each side. In the center, title at top with lengthy text in three columns divided by vertical lines and Roman numerals at top of the "stanzas.". Interior bordering with current coins of the world at left and right. Bottom row with United States coins, bottom corners with Humbert $50 gold "slugs." U.S. reverse types include Gobrecht pattern flying eagle, small eagle silver dollar and small eagle gold eagle, etc. Most of the world types are current coins traded in the United States at the time.<p><p><p><p>Notes: A gorgeous broadside in superior condition. A fascinating perspective of the period with complex text organized as "stanzas." The presentation and design is fabulous. <p><p><p><p>The condition is marvelous. Normal folds seen for distribution, creased across center. The bottom half is tone slightly compared to the top. Impressive and unheard of state for such a large one-sheet of this period. In mylar sleeve, sealed on four sides, and with art-board protection. This would display very impressively.
