Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Third) Bank of the United States. December 15, 1840. $20,000 Written Denomination Post Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.(US-3 G108) Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. Phila. & New York. The highest and odd denomination Post Notes used this engraved form. The denomination was written in and dated at the top left when payable and where. The style differs from the $1000 and $2000 style and the $5000. The bank building at the top center remains, but POST NOTE at the far left shaded panel and demure female in oval at bottom center. This example is payable at the branch in New York, but nine months after date, with the usual back stampings on the blank back. Another handpicked, superior quality note with minimal back stampings showing through. Again, we have always believed better quality examples are undervalued.
