1827 Matron Head Cent. N-5. Rarity-2. MS-64 BN (PCGS).A nicely centered and well struck example showing sharp centrils to all stars. The rich caramel patina is mottled with deeper chocolate shades and complements the overall smooth surfaces. Satiny luster in the fields frames frosty design elements on each side. The lightest cracks are seen in the peripheries indicative of Noyes Die State B/B. A spot of darker patina at the E of CENT readily identifies this as the Naftzger specimen, with provenance stretching back 60 years to the famed Dr. James O. Sloss Collection. From the Paradise Collection. Earlier ex Abe Kosoffs sale of the Dr. James O. Sloss Collection, October 1959, lot 166; Ira and Larry Goldbergs sale of the Ted Naftzger Collection, Part II, February 2009, lot 193.
