1921-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar. AU-58+ (PCGS). CAC.This impressive coin is just a hairs breadth away from full Mint State quality in a 1921-S Walking Liberty half. The reverse retains essentially complete luster in a softly frosted texture, while the obverse exhibits just a trace of friction to confirm the Choice AU rating from PCGS. Both sides are lightly toned is pearl gray and pale gold iridescence, isolated peripheral areas with blushes of reddish-russet tinting. The 1921-S is the rarest issue of this popular 20th century type in Mint State grades, and it is also highly elusive in the finer circulated grades such as Choice EF and AU. Indeed, the vast majority of survivors from a mintage of 548,000 pieces are well worn and in the AG to VG grade range. Smooth in hand and attractive in all regards we predict that only the strongest bids will be competitive when this premium quality example crosses our auctioneers block in Baltimore.
