Pennsylvania, Pleasantville. 1868 Brown Brothers. Bowers PA-5560. Gilt brass. 34 mm. Very Choice Mint State.,Obverse: Liberty Head double eagle motif. Reverse: Issuer name and city in four lines, BROWN / BROTHERS / PLEASANTVILLE , PA. Curiously, the specific business is not mentioned, Pleasantville likely having been small enough in the late 1860s for everyone to know they were bankers. Fewer than 1,000 people live there today.<p>An outstanding card with fully gilt surfaces except for a couple of small areas missed in the manufacturing process. Very satiny and lustrous with an intensely fresh appearance. Any apparent defects appear to be as made. Three are known, and this one, the Bowers plate piece, is the only one in private hands. Others are in ANS and MHS.,Ex Ralph Mitchell Collection; Jess Peters; Ray Byrne Estate; David Schenkman, January 1983; Steve Tanenbaum, 2011; Q. David Bowers Collection.,
