1844 Henry Clay. DeWitt-HC 1844-11. Brass. 39 mm. MS-62 (NGC).,Attractive greenish gold brass surfaces are highlighted by rich orange and violet iridescence on the obverse and traces of pale blue on the reverse. A bit of very subtle oxidation is noted on the reverse as well, but it is obviously considered in the grade assigned and of little aesthetic consequence. A restrike of the 1860s, but quite rare. Just 10 are believed to have been struck in brass, along with similar numbers in copper nickel, copper, and white metal. Three are reported in silver, making those prohibitively rare. John Ford did not own a brass example.,From the Brian Dobbins Collection of American Political Tokens. Earlier ex Al Anderson, March 1983, lot B-3.,
